Keputusan COP

Konferensi Para Pihak ( Conference of Parties / COP ) adalah suatu mekanisme pengambilan keputusan tertinggi untuk dan memberikan mandat bagi badan-badan pelaksana (SBSTTA dan Kelompok kerja) untuk memberikan rekomendasi teknis terkait dengan implementasi pasal-pasal dalam Konvensi Keanekaragaman Hayati serta memberikan mandat bagi para pihak untuk melaksanakan keputusan-keputusan yang terkait dengan program tematik dan isu lintas tema.

Konvensi Keanekaragaman Hayati mengadakan Konferensi Para Pihak dua tahun sekali dan dihadiri oleh negara-negara yang menandatangani dan meratifikasinya. Pertemuan tersebut akan menghasilkan keputusan-keputusan yang bersifat wajib dan/atau disarankan dan/atau diharapkan dilaksanakan oleh negara pihak.

Pada setiap pertemuannya, Conference of the Parties (COP I, COP II, COP III, COP IV, COP V, COP VI, COP VII, COP VIII , COP IX )membahas program kerja tematik dan isu lintas tema. Program kerja tematik mencakup keanekaragaman hayati laut dan pesisir , keanekaragaman hayati pertanian , keanekaragaman hutan , keanekaragaman hayati perairan darat , keanekaragaman hayati lahan kering dan sub humid serta ekosistem pegunungan . Isu lintas tema mencakup akses pada sumberdaya genetik dan pembagian keuntungan; pengendalian spesies asing; pengetahuan inovasi dan praktik tradisional; keanekaragaman hayati dan pariwisata; perubahan iklim dan keanekaragaman hayati; ekonomi, perdagangan dan perangkat insentif; pendekatan ekosistem; strategi global konservasi tanaman; inisiatif taksonomi global; kajian dampak; indikator; pertanggungjawaban dan pemulihan - artikel 14 (2); pengelolaan kawasan lindung; komunikasi, pendidikan dan kesadaran masyarakat; pemanfaatan berkelanjutan keanekaragaman hayati; transfer dan kerjasama pengembangan teknologi.

Secara nasional, keputusan Konferensi Para Pihak dilaksanakan secara terpadu oleh institusi/organisasi pemerintah dan non pemerintah, pihak swasta, perguruan tinggi dan pemangku kepentingan lainnya.
